WordPress has removed planned accessibility improvements for dashboard notices from its development version. The work no longer has a scheduled release.
These are the messages that appear inside your dashboard, including warnings and confirmations. Screen reader users can miss them because WordPress lacks consistent ways to announce or jump to them.
Why WordPress reverted the change
The change grouped notices into a section that assistive software could identify. It also added a notice count to the page title.
Joe Dolson reverted the work on October 14. He said standard notices worked, but unusual cases made the change premature. A proposed follow-up would reduce false counts without fixing enough cases for production.
The tracking ticket now lists the work under “Future Release.”
What this means for your site
There is no update to install for this fix. If your team relies on screen readers, the existing dashboard notice barriers remain.
This concerns dashboard messages, rather than your public pages. It is separate from WordPress’s tooltips for admin controls and proposed admin icon changes.
